President of Earth Lodge, Sandra Cointreau is an
environmental engineer, equestrian and champion dog breeder. She has traveled extensively
throughout the world and studied with healers from many cultures. Sandra is a certified Usui and Karuna Reiki Master, and has studied the Komitor Healing Touch method for animals with Carol Komitor, as well as shamanic healing studies with Michael Harner.
Our Herbalist and Vice-President, Maya Cointreau, has 15 years of experience in herbal healing and enjoys bareback riding. She is a Reiki Master and has studied both Russian and Native American healing methods, in addition to traditional western naturopathy, homeopathy, herbalism and aromatherapy. She co-owned and managed Hygeia, a holistic health and wellness center for two-leggeds in New Milford, CT, for five years and now runs the Earth Lodge Healing Center with Sandra in Roxbury, CT offering Reiki and other energetic healing treatments and classes.
The herbs used in our nutritional supplements have been tested for palatability and effectiveness in stables throughout the country, on a variety of horses, including our own since 1997. All formulas use traditional medicinal herbs chosen from the knowledge base of the Americas, Asia and Europe, and were designed by Maya with E. Barrie Kavasch, an expert ethnobotanist who has published more than 20 books and articles on herbs and other plants and traditional healing methods. Barrie was honored by the Herb Society of America with the "Life Time Achievement in Herbal Literature: 2000." A consummate researcher and field naturalist, her books are filled with more than 3 decades of daily work and interviews with Native American Elders and Medicine People from throughout the Americas, as well as the knowledge passed on to her by her own Native American ancestors. She is the author of "Medicine Wheel Garden" (Bantam, Random House), "Native Harvests" (Random House), "American India Healing Arts: Herbs, Rituals, and Remedies for Every Season of Life" (Random House), and "American Indian Earthsense: Herbaria: Ethnobotany" (Birdstone), "Earthwise: American Indian Uses of Native Trees" (Birdstone).
Many of the herbs in each of our products are certified organic, and all the herbs have been grown in natural conditions. Each herbal blend is pure and natural -- there are no chemicals, fillers, drugs, pollutants, nor synthetics added. We do not add low-effect herbs to create bulk and use only the part of the plant that is considered therapeutic.

Dr. Schoen is one of the pioneers in acupuncture and alternative therapies, developing and practicing them since 1981. He is certified in both veterinary acupuncture and chiropractic medicine, with extensive advanced training in botanical medicine and homeopathy.
